ONE 173 Results: The Greatest Card in History?

I’m not going to lie—about halfway through ONE 173, standing in the middle of our MTKG watch party in North Hollywood, I caught myself thinking:

“If this isn’t the greatest card in history, what does that even look like?”

Superbon wins featherweight kickboxing championship at ONE 173

Since this fight was announced, this one felt different. Ariake Arena was packed, ONE Championship stacked the lineup with Superbon, Noiri, Takeru, Superlek, Nabil Anane, Tye Ruotolo, Christian Lee, Yuya Wakamatsu, Stamp and more, and they delivered exactly the kind of violence and high-level skill that Muay Thai, Kickboxing, MMA, and Jiu Jitsu nerds live for.

Back home at MTKG, we watched ONE 173 with the same mix of people you see on our mats every week: members and students from all over the San Fernando Valley—North Hollywood, Glendale, Burbank, Van Nuys—from pure hobbyists to aspiring fighters, from longtime coaches to day-one students, from sales staff to ownership all in the same room reacting to the same exchanges. That’s the kind of night where being part of a real gym community actually changes how you experience a fight card.

Below is a breakdown of the biggest results through the eyes of someone who watched it all surrounded by pads, heavy bags, and people who train this stuff every week.

Superbon vs Masaaki Noiri – Five Rounds of Pure Kickboxing Chess

Superbon vs Masaki Noiri at ONE 173

If you care about high-level striking, Superbon vs Masaaki Noiri was the kind of fight you pause conversations for.

Superbon unified the ONE featherweight kickboxing world title with a five-round unanimous decision, tightening his place as one of the best kickboxers on the planet.

From the room at MTKG, you could feel everyone reacting to the little details:

  • Superbon's plan to kick Noiri's arms

  • Noiri and his relentless forward pressure

  • The endurance and heart displayed through 5 rounds

For people who train Muay Thai and kickboxing in Los Angeles or Glendale and want to understand why we drill balance, guard, and stance endlessly: this is your case study.

Takeru Segawa vs Denis Puric – Redemption by Violence

Takeru Segawa vs Denis Puric at ONE 173

Takeru Segawa walked into ONE 173 with pressure only a few fighters ever feel—coming off the loss to Rodtang, headlining at home in Japan, and carrying the weight of kickboxing fans from Tokyo to the entire rest of the world.

Against Denis Puric, he didn’t just win. He made a statement. Takeru dropped Puric four times and finished him with a second-round TKO, earning a performance bonus and instantly re-injecting himself into the conversation for another massive fight—a callout of Rodtang for potentially his final fight.

If you’re a striker—whether you’re just starting Muay Thai or you’re already competing—Takeru is the blueprint for controlled aggression: tight combinations, disciplined footwork, and zero wasted motion.

Stamp Fairtex – Superstar Aura, Tough Night

Kana Morimoto defeats Stamp Fairtex at ONE 173

You can’t talk about ONE 173 without talking about Stamp Fairtex.

Her walkout alone reminded everyone why she’s one of the biggest names in ONE Championship—former three-sport world champion, crossover star, and one of the main reasons casual fans in California even know what ONE is. This was her return to pure kickboxing, matched up against Japanese standout Kana Morimoto in an atomweight showdown that had hardcore fans circling the bout on the card weeks in advance.

It didn’t go Stamp’s way.

Kana came out with pressure, volume, and a tight, disciplined kickboxing style that forced Stamp to fight off the back foot more than usual. Over three rounds, Kana’s forward movement and clean combinations earned her a unanimous decision victory, handing Stamp a rough but valuable reminder of how thin the margins are at this level.

Yuki Yoza vs Superlek – The Upset That Shook the Room

Yuki Yoza vs Superlek at ONE 173

On paper, Superlek “The Kicking Machine” is one of the most decorated and popular fighters in the sport. He walked into this bout a sizable favorite, confident in his ability to get the win and work himself to a rematch with Nabil Anane. Yoza, a teammate and training partner of Takeru, was looking to use his experience in studying Superlek to have an edge in the fight.

In the end, Yoza’s was able to get the job done to the surprise of many.

If you train Muay Thai or kickboxing with us at MTKG, this is the fight you rewatch when your coach is yelling at you about range control and not always needing to brawl to win.

Nabil Anane vs Hiromi Wajima – Long, Sharp, and Mean

Nabil Anane vs Hiromi Wajima at ONE 173

Originally, Nabil Anane was supposed to fight Jonathan Haggerty at ONE 173. Haggerty pulled out injured, and Anane ended up facing Hiromi “The Purple Comet” Wajima in his featherweight kickboxing debut.

He made the most of it.

Anane fought Wajima over three rounds, taking a unanimous decision and reminding everyone why people are already talking about his potential as a multi-division star.

From our angle in North Hollywood, what stood out was:

  • How well he used his insane height and reach

  • His ability to stay dangerous at all ranges—not just poking from the outside

  • The composure he showed against a dangerous opponent in a new weight class

If you’re a taller fighter training Muay Thai or Kickboxing in SoCal and you’re not studying Nabil Anane, you’re wasting a natural advantage.

Tye Ruotolo vs Shozo Isojima – MMA & Grappling That Makes Sense to Strikers

The MMA side of ONE 173 was just as wild.

Tye Ruotolo came into ONE 173 already a monster in submission grappling. This time, he reminded everyone that his MMA game is catching up scary-fast.

He submitted Shozo Isojima with a rear-naked choke at 2:26 of the first round, earning another performance bonus and moving to 2–0 in MMA.

Yuya Wakamatsu & Christian Lee – Controlled Chaos in the Cage

Yuya Wakamatsu defeats Christian Lee at ONE 173

The MMA side of ONE 173 was a gift that kept on giving.

  • Yuya Wakamatsu defended his flyweight MMA world title with a second-round TKO over Joshua Pacio.

  • Christian Lee retained his lightweight title by stopping Alibeg Rasulov in the second round, using a D’Arce choke setup and knees to force the referee’s intervention.

These fights had that perfect mix of:

  • Scrambles that make jiu jitsu players happy

  • Enough clean striking to keep Muay Thai and Kickboxing fans locked in

  • Finishing sequences that you can only find under the ONE ruleset

If you’re an MMA fan bouncing between UFC, ONE, and PFL, ONE 173 gave you world-class examples of how modern MMA blends striking, wrestling, and submissions into one fluid game.

Rodtang’s Absence – The One Thing Missing

Reug Reug, Rodtang, Zamboanga, and Jonathan Haggerty all withdraw from their fights at ONE 173

We have to mention it:

Rodtang was supposed to fight Nong-O for the vacant ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Title, but he withdrew after feeling unwell post weigh-ins and was taken to a local hospital. Nong-O also missed weight and failed hydration, so the fight was scrapped and will be rescheduled.

When you add Jonathan Haggerty into that mix—another superstar name in the same orbit who wasn’t on this card—you realize how stacked this event really was. Between Rodtang, Nong-O, Reug Reug, Malykhin, and Haggerty, you’re looking at some of the most recognizable names in combat sports that didn't even get to compete.

In our watch party, that was the one shadow over the event. There were so many hostoric, legacy defining fights that we didn't get ot see play out. But if ONE 173 proved anything, it’s that this roster is deep enough to still deliver a historic card even when a dream fight falls through.

And let’s be honest—if we get Rodtang vs Takeru next year, no one’s complaining.

Deep-Cut Highlights for the Hardcore Fans

If you’re the type who bookmarks fight cards and rewatches them, ONE 173 gave you a lot to work with:

  • Nadaka becoming the inaugural ONE Atomweight Muay Thai World Champion

  • Rafael Lovato Jr. edging out Giancarlo Bodoni in a high-level grappling match

  • Suakim Sor.Jor.Tongprajin stopping Jake Peacock in a wild Muay Thai fight that had the entire room buzzing about how insane this sport gets in 4oz gloves

  • Hiroyuki Tetsuka getting revenge on Shinya Aoki with a brutal body-shot TKO after that infamous weigh-in trip

For people who already live in the world of K-1, GLORY, UFC BJJ, ADCC, IBJJF, and everything in between, ONE 173 was basically a buffet.

What ONE 173 Means for Fighters and Fans in Los Angeles California

Muay Thai legend Liam "The Hitman" Harrison hosts a seminar at MTKG in North Hollywood, California.

Here’s the real question if you train—or want to train—Muay Thai or Kickboxing in the Los Angeles County area:

Are you just watching this level…or are you slowly building a version of it into your own game?

Watching Superbon, Takeru, Superlek, Nabil Anane, Tye Ruotolo, Christian Lee, Jonathan Haggerty, and the rest of this card is fun. But if you’re honest with yourself, you feel something else under that:

  • The urge to finally start training

  • The itch to come back to the gym after time off

  • The realization that the difference between “fan” and “practitioner” is one decision and one class

That’s the gap we try to bridge at MTKG.
