Walking into a Muay Thai gym for the first time can feel intimidating. New faces, unfamiliar movements, and the sound of pads cracking can make anyone wonder, “Am I ready for this?” The truth is, everyone in the room started exactly where you are now. Your first class isn’t about being perfect. It’s about showing up, learning the basics, and taking the first step in your Muay Thai journey.
Here’s what you can expect.
A Warm Welcome From the Start

From the moment you walk in, you’ll be greeted by the our team. We take time to welcome new students because Muay Thai isn’t just about training hard, it’s about training together.
You’ll be introduced to the coach, given a quick rundown of how class works, and welcomed by other students who remember what their first day felt like.Don’t worry if you don’t know anyone yet. By the end of class, you’ll already feel like part of the room.
Coach Introduction and Class Overview

Before training begins, the coach will briefly introduce themselves and explain the focus of the class. This helps set expectations and gives beginners confidence knowing there’s a clear plan.
You’ll hear cues about pacing, safety, and technique, so you can relax and focus on learning rather than guessing what to do next. Questions are always encouraged. Coaches expect beginners to ask them.
An Intense (But Scalable) Warm-Up

The warm-up is designed to get your body ready for Muay Thai. Expect a mix of light cardio, movement drills, and bodyweight exercises to raise your heart rate and loosen your hips, shoulders, and legs.
It might feel intense, especially if you’re new to training, but everything is scalable. Go at your own pace. The goal isn’t to exhaust you, it’s to prepare you. Everyone takes breaks when needed, and no one is judging.
Combo Breakdown, Lesson, and Instruction

After warming up, the coach will break down techniques step by step. This usually includes basic strikes like punches, kicks, knees, or elbows, along with stance, balance, and proper form.
The coach will demonstrate each movement, explain key details, and walk around correcting technique. This part of class is focused and educational. You’re not expected to get everything right on day one. Learning Muay Thai is a process, and fundamentals are emphasized for a reason.
Next, you’ll be paired into groups to practice the combinations. You’ll rotate through rounds, taking turns striking and holding pads. Don’t worry if you’ve never held pads before. The coach will show you exactly how to do it and keep things simple.
This is where class really comes alive. You’ll feel the rhythm of the rounds, hear the pads pop, and start to understand how techniques connect together. Training with partners builds confidence quickly and creates a strong sense of teamwork.
Conditioning Finisher to Close the Class

Class usually ends with a conditioning finisher. This can include core work, bodyweight exercises, or short high-intensity drills. It’s challenging, sweaty, and rewarding. The finisher pushes you to dig a little deeper, but it also brings everyone together at the end of training.
You’ll leave tired, accomplished, and proud you made it through your first class.
After Class: The Real Win
After class, expect handshakes, fist bumps, and encouragement. Your first Muay Thai class isn’t about how hard you hit or how long you lasted. It’s about showing up, learning something new, and proving to yourself that you belong. No matter your fitness level or experience, Muay Thai meets you where you are and helps you grow from there. Your first class is just the beginning.
